Heartwork for Kids

In this month’s Vlog you will see Mary Beth Woll and Linda Smith, Co-Directors of The Widows Project, interviewing Frank and Val Herbert about their recent mission trip to South Sudan.

Last May, Mary Beth and Linda provided a Heartwork training for Marysville Foursquare Church, under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Thompson, who was planning to take a team to South Sudan to minister Heartwork to the orphans under their care. Frank and Val took our Heartwork for Kids training and, together with another woman, were able to minister Heartwork to 23 orphans in three days! Glory to God! (0:36).

The elements of "Heartwork for Kids" are as follows :(0:52)

  • Hearing their story: Children recount a past crisis they experienced.

  • Body awareness: They identify where they feel the crisis in their body (1:18).

  • Story repetition: The “Heartworker” retells the child's story back to them to acknowledge their experience (1:36).

  • Re-evaluation: Children are asked to close their eyes and feel where the trauma is in their body again (2:01).

  • Inviting Jesus: After the story is told three times, children are asked where Jesus is in their story, what He is doing, and what He is saying (2:11).

  • Final assessment: Children are asked to feel for the trauma in their body one last time (2:27).

  • After Heartwork, with very few exceptions, the children reported seeing Jesus in their trauma and they no longer felt the trauma in their bodies!

The results of the Heartwork process which the Lord has given us are truly miraculous! It was absolutely thrilling to hear of Heartwork being used by the Lord to help some of the most traumatized children in the world!

These children are primarily orphans whose parents were killed due to genocide (4:25) or died from diseases like cholera and tuberculosis (4:53). Many came from refugee camps, originally from Sudan (4:05), or were street children living in Juba (4:59). The ministry started with 32 children (3:58) and has since grown to 65, with separate orphanages for boys and girls (5:15).

Despite coming from a Muslim background, these children have now experienced Jesus through the Heartwork process (5:50). Val shares a powerful testimony of a 14-year-old boy who saw his trauma disappear after inviting Jesus into his story (6:13-7:35).

At The Widows Project, we are bringing comfort and healing globally (8:21). Additionally, we are expanding our reach to train pastors and to Widow Leaders in seven (soon to be eight) African countries (8:40).

At The Widows Project, Mary Beth and Linda volunteer most of our time while collecting a very small salary. We also have three part-time employees who help us.

At this time, we are looking for people who will prayerfully commit to becoming monthly donors so that we can continue our ministry to “bind up the brokenhearted” in the United States and literally around the world!

For a one-time gift or to sign up as a monthly donor to this ministry, please visit the donate button on our website at www.thewidowsproject.org .

Thank you for your interest and support! We literally could not do this without you!

God bless you!

Mary Beth and Linda
